Online Publisher Aziza Uko Alleges Harassment Over News Headline

aziza

The Publisher of an online newspaper, The Trent, Aziza Uko has accused the Chief Press Secretary to Information Minister, Joseph Mutah, of harassing her over a story she posted on her medium on the 30th of March.

Uko who spoke in an email conversation with Vanguard disclosed that Mutah who was angered by The Trent’s headline on a story titled; “Buhari Knows That He Hasn’t Delivered The Promised Change – Lai Mohammed” commanded her to drop the story.

She furthers, “We published a news release from Lai Mohammed’s office yesterday. Only for Joe Mutah, who works for Lai Mohammed, to call me that the headline is misleading. I happen to have personally read the press release he mailed to us so I didn’t see anything misleading about the headline and I told him so.

He dropped the call. “A few minutes later I saw an email threat from him. I happened to be awake and online.

I fired off a reply spontaneous. Threats and intimidation are not tools of governance in a democracy. In life, one should not feel like they know everything or they are always right.

So this morning, I shared it with a circle of friends for advise, asking if they thought our headline was misleading and if they thought my response was appropriate. Some of them work in the media and must have leaked the conversation out to the press. I began to get enquirers from journalists.

I had to tell the truth about what happened. I could forward you the emails if you really want to do a story.” She ended
