Budget Padding Is a Crime Of Corruption - SERAP Tells Dogara

Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) has faulted the claim by the Speaker of House of Representatives Mr Yakubu Dogara that “budget padding is not a crime under Nigerian law.”

Mr Dogara said this after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa last week. According to him, “Budget padding is not an offence. What is padding? I studied law and I have been in the legislature and all this period I have never heard of the word padding being an offence under any law…Why should I be worried. As far as I am concerned, I am not worried over anything.”

A 35-year old man arrested by the operatives of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command has accused his pastor of pushing him into selling of stolen vehicles.

The suspect, Olawale Olabinwonnu, working with Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Igbogbo, Ikorodu area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria as an administrative officer, was arrested by RRS’ Intelligence Team recently for trying to sell a Nissan Sentra, 2015 Model, stolen at gunpoint.

Speaker Dogara Wants To Kill Me, Jibrin Cries Out

 

Former Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin, has accused Speaker of the House, Yakubu Dogara and 12 others of planning to kill him.

In a statement he released on Sunday evening, Jibrin said he no longer feels safe as Dogara and others he accused of illegally inserting N40b into the 2016 budget have perfected plans to eliminate him.

”I believe Speaker Dogara, the 12 others and some vested interest within and outside the House want to kill me. I no longer feel safe. I have carefully followed their desperation to suppress what will go down in history as the biggest corruption case in Nigeria. I have prepared myself for any eventuality. I have spoken to my mum and dad extensively during the weekend. I have prepared my family. I have handed over a handwritten note and documents to a popular SAN, a man of integrity and other persons that I believe will lay it bare even if they succeed in killing me,” Jibrin stated.

A disturbing video of a teenager from Ebonyi State being flogged by a man went viral on social media some days ago. The report then was that a father caught his teenage daughter having sex with a man in their home, stripped her and told people to film her while he flogged her. According to Ada Ebonyi, the young girl in the video has been identified as Uzoamaka, a 15-year-old Junior Secondary School and an orphan.

"The people that stripped her were top politicians in my community, people who were supposed to protect and care for her, but for reasons best known to them, they thought there could shame her, funny enough the same social media they wanted to shame her with, was the same media she is getting justice from...When the first pictures and stories went viral, concerned individuals including myself raised serious alarm and seeked for justice on her behalf." said Ada Ebonyi.

Manhunt Launched After Gunmen Kidnap Two Chinese Nationals In Nigeria

Gunmen have kidnapped two Chinese nationals on a road to Nigeria's capital Abuja, police said on Sunday.


Nasarawa state police spokesperson Ismail Noman told AFP the foreigners were ambushed on Saturday in the village of Agada on their way to Abuja.
"The Chinese nationals were abducted around 14:30 yesterday [Saturday] on their way to Abuja and taken to an unknown location," he said, adding a manhunt has been launched.

According to the father, he and his family were desperate for food and by selling his daughter he had one less mouth to feed. He also insisted that the new husband of the girl had sworn not to have sex with her until she turned 18. After the wedding, Abdolkarim reportedly took the girl to a relative’s house in Firozkoh, in Ghor province, pretending she was his daughter. But the concerned relative raised the alarm, insisting Abdolkarim was undressing her at night. Abdolkarim then told a relative saying: “No she’s my wife, her father gave her to me.”

Revelations have emerged on why President Muhammadu Buhari sacked erstwhile registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB), Professor ‘Dibu Ojerinde. The former chief executive of JAMB was replaced by Ishaq Oloyede alongside other appointments by the federal government recently. Reports from those close to information informed Daily Post that a fight between Ojerinde and minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu over the 2016 admission exercise into universities and other tertiary institutions led to the termination of the former’s contract.
